From the field: Hideaki Kawashima's notes describe the 2013 XY redesigned to 70mm for a 2025 Karakuri Lottery release, with a strengthened dummy mechanism.

In the maker's words

XY Mini Japanese Puzzle Box The XY Puzzle box, which was originally designed for the Karakuri Party in Hakone in 2013 and has now been released in a Mini version in a 2025 Karakuri Lottery! Crafted by Hideaki Kawashima, he explains this work in the following manner, " I have redesigned the structure of XY (KW-18), which was originally released in 2013. The overall size of the piece has been reduced from 86mm cubed to 70mm cubed, and the storage space from 42mm cubed to 39mm cubed. Additionally, by adding an inner lid, the opening has become significantly wider, making it much easier to store items without inconvenience. The strength of the dummy mechanism has also been greatly improved, but the piece is still delicate overall, so please do not apply excessive force." Measures 70 x 70 x 70 mm. with a storage space of 39 x 39 x 39 mm. and crafted in Maple, Wendge, keyaki (Zelkova), Amerian Black Cherry and Magnolia. The opening sequence is very tricky. Will arrive in gift box and opening instructions.
