Hand crafted by artist Robert Yarger, this unique take-apart puzzle box comprises a patchwork of quality maple, walnut, cherry and bloodwood pieces. Some boxes also have a few oak components to them. The box requires a total of 32 moves to get open. Three additional moves will also allow it to come apart into more than 75 individual solid wood pieces. The No. 5 puzzle box does not use any glue. Instead, it is simply held together by the shape of its intricately cut pieces. A lot of time and detail went into each individual component on this box. Most of its pieces required over 18 separate machine cuts in order to produce, and the exterior side of each piece has been painstakingly beveled to enhance its appearance. The pieces have also been finished using a special lacquering process that takes 24 hours to complete and 36 hours to fully cure, (a process that should prevent warping, swelling or shrinking of any box part for generations to come).
