In the maker's words

The King Cubi, also called the Quaternary Box, requires 1536 Steps to Open!! Created in 2010, this amazing puzzle is crafted in Shiuri Cherry, Angsana, Maple, Zebra Wood, Keyaki and stainless steel. It is explained that "Comb" shaped and "Snake" shaped grooves were required for movement, unlike the Binary and Ternary boxes crafted earlier. Measuring a whopping 7.4 x 7.4 x 7.4 inches, this particular Puzzle is EXTREMELY well constructed and very heavy! Crafted by Hiroshi Iwahara, this puzzle will arrive in the original box and directions.
