Dax's current recommendation
Uprising is the current standalone default
Uprising is not an expansion. It is a complete base game with spies, contracts, worms, and a revised board. Buy it first unless the original game’s cleaner rhythm is the specific attraction.
- Do not buy both bases expecting a simple mega-game
- The original is still excellent when discounted
- Teach either base alone before adding modules

- Play the base repeatedly before modules
- Keep each foundation sorted

You know whether Imperium or Uprising is the foundation, which modules are compatible, and what each expansion changes before combining boxes. What this tool assumes
Uprising is a standalone foundation, not a required upgrade. Compatibility does not mean every module should be used together.Dax's table briefing
The tool has a point of view. The rules still get the final word.
“Arrakis rewards deliberate modules and punishes the box-combining buffet.”

First purchase
Uprising is the current standalone default
Uprising is not an expansion. It is a complete base game with spies, contracts, worms, and a revised board. Buy it first unless the original game’s cleaner rhythm is the specific attraction.
- Do not buy both bases expecting a simple mega-game
- The original is still excellent when discounted
- Teach either base alone before adding modules
Rise of Ix
The strongest economic expansion
Ix adds shipping, technologies and dreadnoughts. It meaningfully changes resource valuation and is the most common “first expansion” answer for original Imperium.
- Its board overlay was designed for original Imperium
- Uprising mixing requires curation
- Dreadnoughts make conflict commitments stickier
Immortality
A compact deckbuilding mutation
Research and graft cards add combo texture with less board replacement than Ix. It suits players who want the deck to carry more of the expansion.
- Grafting raises hand-analysis load
- Can be combined, but more modules are not automatically better
- Teach research separately
Uprising era
Use compatibility as permission, not instruction
Many cards and modules can cross the product boundary, but balance, board spaces and icon assumptions differ. Start from a tested recipe rather than combining every legal component.
- Preserve a clean reset list
- Label mixed decks
- One expansion question per session
