The suggested retail price on the Pitch Black Elite Trainer Box is $49.99 — that's the number the distributor, PHD Games, published. It is not the number you'll see almost anywhere a preorder is currently open.

Here's the escalation, as of July 3, 2026: Target and Best Buy already list the ETB around $59.99 — the mass retailers, and still $10 over the $49.99 SRP. Miniature Market, an established hobby shop, lists it at $89.99. And eBay presales sit around $96.75. GamesRadar put it bluntly: "you'll be lucky if you see Elite Trainer Boxes for $80 or less."

So the honest spread going into launch is roughly $50 SRP you'll rarely catch, ~$60 as your realistic best case at a big-box store, ~$90 at hobby shops, and $95-plus from flippers. That escalation is the entire game. Everything below is about landing as close to the bottom of it as you can — or deciding a cheaper format gets you what you actually want.

The stores that stay nearest to sticker are the mass retailers, because they sell Pokémon as a traffic-driver, not a margin play. In rough order of "closest to the $49.99 SRP":

This is the decision that actually saves you money, so match the format to what you want:

You want to play and want the accessories → Elite Trainer Box. The sleeves, dice, and storage are the point. Best near the $49.99–$59.99 range, not the $90 hobby price.

You're chasing specific singles → Booster Bundle (6 packs, ~$45 street) or the Blister packs. If your real goal is a Mega Darkrai ex or a specific special illustration, you don't need 65 sleeves — you need packs, or better yet, you need to just buy the single you want on the secondary market once prices settle. Ripping packs is the most expensive way to get a specific card.

You're going deep — collecting the set or reselling → Booster Box (36 packs). The full box (a $161.64 SRP) is the lowest per-pack cost if you're opening in volume, but it's the biggest cash outlay and the most exposed to price swings. It streets around $239.99 in preorder; that's real money on a set whose singles market hasn't formed yet.

The trap to avoid: buying a marked-up ETB "for the packs." If it's packs you want, a $90 ETB is a terrible per-pack price. The Booster Bundle exists for exactly this reason.

2. Set stock alerts on Best Buy, Target, Walmart, and Pokémon Center apps. Restocks are fast and quiet. The alert is your whole edge.

3. Have an account and saved payment on Pokémon Center specifically. It prices nearest to SRP, and its exclusive ETB is the best value in the lineup — but it sells out in minutes, so checkout speed decides whether you get it.

4. If you only want a chase card, don't buy sealed at all. Wait 2–4 weeks post-launch and buy the graded or raw single. The launch spike almost always softens.

5. Never pay eBay presale prices ($95-plus) unless day-one possession genuinely matters to you. It rarely does. Supply improves; patience is a discount.
