Cinematic sci-fi horror boxes, pledge ladders, alien races, and the expensive art of making the table nervous.

Nemesis

The short answer

Nemesis is the board-game universe for people who want their table to tell horror stories afterward: hidden objectives, bad corridors, alien pressure, and premium boxes that can climb from a single core to a collector wall. This universe keeps the buying path sane before the lights go out.

Questions, answered

Which Nemesis game should I buy first?
Start with classic Nemesis if you want the original spaceship-horror legend. Choose Lockdown for the alternate facility feel. Choose Retaliation first only if the marine action-horror angle is exactly what you want.
Is Nemesis: Retaliation a good grail buy?
Yes for existing Nemesis fans and cinematic horror tables. It is less safe as a blind first buy because the pledge ladder can push new buyers into expensive extras before they know the system fits.
Is Nemesis: Retaliation standalone?
Awaken Realms describes Retaliation as a standalone Nemesis experience, so you do not need the original Nemesis to play it. That does not make it the safest first buy for every group; the original still teaches the classic horror pitch most cleanly.
Should I buy Nemesis, Lockdown, or Retaliation first?
Buy original Nemesis first if you want the classic spaceship-horror legend. Buy Lockdown if the alternate base setting calls to you. Buy Retaliation first only if the marine action angle is the thing you specifically want.
What should I buy first for Arkham Horror: The Card Game in 2026?
Buy the **2026 Core Set**, SKU AHC100. It is the current evergreen starting point, supports 1-4 players, and contains the complete three-scenario *Brethren of Ash* campaign. Do not add expansions until you have played it.
Do I need an Investigator Deck to play the 2026 Core Set?
No. The Core includes five investigators and enough player cards to build starting decks. An evergreen Investigator Deck is our recommended second-stage purchase because it gives one stronger ready deck plus upgrades for $18.99 MSRP.
What is the best beginner strategy for Arkham Horror LCG?
Build or choose decks with clear jobs, then spend actions on tempo: clues, enemy control, movement that advances the act, and setup that pays off quickly. Do not try to pass every test or clear every location.
Is Arkham Horror LCG better true solo or two-handed solo?
True solo is faster but much swingier because one investigator must do everything. Two-handed solo has more upkeep, but it teaches the cooperative role structure better and is usually kinder to beginners who can manage two hands.
